For my idea I have chosen to do photography for my final project as I feel I will be able to tell more of a story and I’m stronger in photography then I am shooting films. I have also studied a photographer before now who I think will help me with my own idea as it’s very similar. My idea will be focusing all around mental illnesses. I want to raise awareness but in a subtle way so it can be viewed but not be upsetting but at the same time people know what it’s about straight away. I want to do a picture for schizophrenia; this type of image would be edited on Photoshop. Then an image for an eating disorder which would just be a person’s body image/facial expression describing how they felt and so on. My target audience will be female and male teenagers and young adults as I think they will have more of an experience as in the teenage years is when you first start seeing the problems and notice things about your appearance more. I want my images to stand out to people and that catches the audience’s attention and draws them in straight away. For example a dark and gloomy image and then against a background that makes it stand out. I think my project will be right for female and male young adults as I feel this is the age where body image and how people perceive others is noticed/thought about the most. For my project I will need camera equipment such as a DSLR camera and a tripod. Before taking my images I will take images of a variety of locations and then look at them to see which I think would work best and look better on the camera. I’ll be using Photoshop to edit my images as I can edit them in a subtle way and adjust the brightness and contrast to fit with my theme. As the theme is an on-going problem for people, I want to raise awareness through my images so I’ll add the helpline numbers in. This will also make the theme instantly more recognizable to people and I think it’ll make them pay more attention. This is the only writing that will feature in the images.
